Join us Saturday, April 6 for an official announcement and more details from Chicago Park District COO, Pat Levar. We will meet at 10 am in the Eckhart Park Field House.

In addition to this exciting announcement, we’ll be discussing the park’s plans for Earth Day, and calling for volunteers. The new playground will provide many great opportunities to get involved, and we’ll be accepting nominations for board member positions during the meeting.

The celebration will continue afterwards at Branch 27. Come out and celebrate with your friends and neighbors!

On May 4th, Friends of Eckhart Park will hold its annual elections for board member positions. Read more to find out how you can get involved.

RUN FOR OFFICE
Being on the Friends of Eckhart Park board is a great way to get to know members of your community and make an impact on your park. If you would like to run for an open position or know someone who would be a perfect fit, we encourage you to bring your nomination to our next meeting at the Fieldhouse on April 6th. All are welcome to run, and all nominations will be placed on the ballot for the May 4th elections.

Lively discussion was complemented by unique wines and delicious snacks, thanks to the lovely people at LUSH. We even welcomed some new neighbors to the ‘hood.

Whether you made it to happy hour or not, be sure not to miss EPAC’s upcoming monthly meeting where we will discuss next steps for bettering our park based on your feedback.

In May, the 7-Eleven organization contacted Alderman Burnett and the Eckhart Park Community Council about plans to construct a new store on the northwest corner of Chicago and Noble, currently a vacant lot.

In July, The 7-Eleven team presented renderings and details before the EPCC and a large group of neighbors. Residents raised concerns about the proposed sale of alcohol, the hours, the increase of traffic congestion and litter in the park and surrounding areas. The EPCC sent a position letter (PDF) to Alderman Burnett summarizing the community’s concerns and stated our non-support for the development. The EPCC chairperson was recently notified that 7-Eleven is no longer pursuing the site for a convenience store.

There is a rally Monday, October 10, at 530 PM at the police station, to declare the community’s desire that the station remain open.  In addition to the rally, you can electronically sign a petition to keep the station open.
